It's no secret ( yes it is) that I hate RAW. Hate everything about it. From the Divas T&A bits to the laundry cycle on the main event, an alternation between HHH, Cena, and Orton to the few bright shining stars in the infinite vortex of suck that is the midcard to the "great on paper, only the paper is toilet paper" guest host idea, RAW lacks a reason for a lot of people to watch it. Because I have DVR, I actually do watch it, but I find myself fast-forwarding through everything except the opening segment, a couple matches featuring my afforemenitoned favorites, and the ending of the main event. So, suggestions on how RAW can improve, without hiring or firing anyone. Here's one! CHOOSE GUEST HOSTS PEOPLE CARE ABOUT. ZZ Top? Freddie Prinze Jr? Gonna have to do better than that. And, in classic WWE fashion, even when they do something right, they did it wrong. Take a look at Piven. A talented actor with charisma and a reason to be there, and they stick him with a flat-out insulting Asian pimp sidekick. And let's not forget the whole "Summerfest" deal... So, choose people who are A. relevant B. someone recognizable to WWE fans and kids , not just adults, and C. Someone with charisma. The only guest host who was even close to this was Shaq, who is an icon with enough to carry himself through some (absurdly juvenile) banter with Jeri-Show. A good choice is legendary wrestlers. While not necesarily relevant, they are at least recognizable on the merits of their profession, and probably have some charisma. They tried that with Sgt. Slaughter, but he spent his segments dissing the Calgary crowd. A show shouldn't be centered around the crowd, which brings me to the point of last weeks RAW. From Jericho's two, count 'em, two promos on how deliciously Canuckistanian ( don't ask) he is, only to denounce them in the line of the night ("You know what the biggest problem with Canadians is? They aren't American.") to the Calgary Kid/ Vince Russo's smile on a pole match, to Slaughter dedicating 30 minutes of the show to tell Canadians to speak Russian...or something... to the "first time ever Jericho will not be destroyed and violated in a match with John Cena" main event, the show was centered around the Calgary crowd. Could be worse though. ECW was in Edmonton, and Abraham Washington was this close to making a Chris Benoit joke... Whatever, I digress. this is the spot to recommend on improving Raw. Or spam me and call me a mark. Whatever.

To be a jerkass here, but this is by God the Lord's truth:
Who cares about YOU?
Shaq boosted ratings to a 4.0. Considering average RAW ratings rate from 3.3 to 3.8, that's a huge boost, and a sign that Guest Hosts ain't going away just because YOU want it to.
See Marx Rayner. He is the satirical embodiment of you. And I still love you regardless <3 |

My thoughts exactly. |

| Fair point. It's a forum, a place for a bunch of people who hate one another's guts to shakily agree on things. That's just my opinion. The host aren't going away, that's true. Doesn't mean I won't bitch about it. |

Ratings are to wrestling what aids is to the gays. The divas search of 2004 featured some of the worst entertainment, considering the fact they were tits 'n ass segments at their highest potential and they counldn't make that interesting, and these segments were always highly rated. They bought it back two or three more times until it was in the beating a dead horse category.
UFC is the hot shit right now because they feature fighting and little in the way of storylines and goofy segments. Maybe if WWE got back to showing more matches (competitive ones, not interchange-able hoss squashes) they would get some viewers back and some new ones too. What the hell is a .2 in ratings anyway, never been abe to care about these numbers enough to figure this out. |

YES! Shemmy, that is it. Watch Smackdown, and they always have at least one serious, competitive match, usually involving CM Punk or Chris Jericho or John Morrison. Punk and Morrison are young guys with 10+ years left in their careers, and Jericho seems to made of an indestructable alloy, since he never ever gets injured. RAW lacks this. Sure, Evan Bourne does a freat shooting star press, and Jack Swagger has good matches with almost everyone. But the rest of the matches are Legacy getting destroyed (the time they beat HHH is the exception that proves the rule), and Jerishow being dicks to the guest host. Meanwhile, we get a Chavo/Hornswaggle comedy match, a divas tag, and that's your show. Chris Masters should be feuding with Kofi Kingston so he can show off his power moves, not with MVP so he can show off their lack of chemistry. Bourne/Swagger is match of the night, so I'd like it if exceeds five minutes. You have Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, and Mickie James, three competent established female wrestlers, so let them wrestle! Get Kelly and Rosa and Alicia the fuck out of the ring, let them be managers or as diva jobbers. I just finished reading RD Reynolds "Death of WCW", and RAW reminds me of WCW. A never-changing main event, talented undercard wrestler being misused, stupid comedy skits that only bury capable wrestlers? This sounds just like Nitro circa 1998. Ok, that was a rant. but RAW must improve. Ratings are alright now, but for how long? "If [WCW] wasn't broken, it most certainly was worn out." -RD Reynolds. |
