With this year's SummerSlam being over and the whole last 20 years being out on DVD, I decided to take a trip down memory lane in the weekend and watch the first one from 1988. And after laughing at some of the ridiculousness of it (and trying hard to justify to my friend why I thought it was real when I was young), I thought it might be fun to share any particular cards/matches that we enjoyed over the last 20 years (well, up to 2000 anyways). It used to be a pretty consistently good pay-per-view back in the day, and there were some pretty memorable (good and bad) parts.
For me, my favourite SummerSlam has always been and always will be 1989; not just because of the hilarity that is Zeus, but I always remember the matches being fun. Sure, there are a couple of duds (Ted Dibiase vs Snuka, Hercules vs Greg Valentine) but the 6-man tag matches were great, Rick Rude carried Warrior to a really good match, and I've always loved the opening tag-match between The Hart Foundation and The Brain Busters. That is one of my favourite tag-matches of all time.
Anyone else wish to share?

Summerslam Hart and Soul (1999 I believe).
Its my personal favorite as I was there. My favorite wrestler of all time has and always has been Bret Hart. And one of my dreams (Aside from getting my hands on one of those jackets) was to see him win a World Title at least once, and I got my dream. Not only did he win, but he outsmarted both guys to win it. Priceless, and though I was the only guy in the arena cheering, it was my favorite Summerslam easily.
It also has one of the most semi regretful moments in my wrestling fan life. Remember the "Chance" at a million dollars contest, they had? Well, whether you believe me or not, the number three popped in my head.I entered, when my stepfather suprised me with the tickets. Do I go, or do I stay in case I get called? Obviously, I went. I told my mother to listened for a call, but she barely listened of course. Anyway, we go, we have fun, and we get to the contest. On one of the calls, theres was no answer. My mother is the type who will not pick up the phone if she doesn't recognize the number. Anyway, the number was in fact three, as I predicted. And while I know the odds, I've always wondered if it was my house that was called?
Anywho, thats my favorite. |

Summerslam 90 is my favorite.
Warrior Vs. Rude in a steel cage was classic and hilarious when Rude's pants got pulled down.
Hogan Vs. Earthquake was an awesome match form a really great feud. I totally marked out for it as a kid when the late great Earthquake "broke" Hogan's ribs.
Texas Tornado Vs. Mr. Perfect no surprise that this is another great match and sad when you realize they are both gone.
The Hart Foundation Vs. Demolition? Awesomeness!
Nikolai Volfkoff and Jim Duggan vs. Orient express was a fun match. USA!
Jake the Snake Vs. Bad News Brown was cool since Jake had Damien and Brown brought rats.
Power and Glory Vs. The Rockers was good and interesting when you realize how many tag team matches this PPV had. Boy I miss the old tag team division.
Warlord Vs. Tito Santana...Don't really remember it, but it had Slick.
And finally, Ted DiBiase buys off Sweet Sweet Sapphire. This was pure gold. I remember Dusty Rhodes looking all over for her. This caused Sensational Sherri to win her match against Sapphire by DQ and Dusty lost to the Macho Man because he was so upset.
Great Summerslam all around. |

last Summer I slammed a homeless guy after I caught him making out with my mom. plus he had a cool jacket I really wanted - it had a really funny patch that had Chewbacca going "RAWR" on it. Fucking hilarious!!!!!!!
Anyways the jacket smelled like puke so I gave it pack |

| Summerslam 94. The undertaker vs the Undertaker. I was so stoked to see that, and Bret vs Owen. That was a hell of a PPV |

Summerslam 2003
It still makes me sad you can't buy a Shane O'Mac jersey with "BITCHOFF" on the back. |
