I have to say, I was over WWE before this mania so I didn't pay ANY attention to it one bit until early '05. There was about a 6 month break from following wrestling for me due to just scheduling conflicts. The only other time I ignored WWE in the past 20 years was about 2 months into the spirit squad run for me. That also turned me completely off the WWE. It lasted 6 months on the whole Kenny, Mikey whatever deal... anyway during that run I missed HANDS DOWN the BEST Mania ever.
Wrestlemania 20: At Madison Square Gardens
How could i ignore such a show? It was hands down the best Mania EVER!! I thought Id feel all weird seeing Benoit celebrating but NOPE!! Take Goldberg and Lesnar's BS away from this (I heard they both were quitting and heard it was bad but WOW.. they scorched those two in the crowd.. RAD!!) and Victoria and Molly Holly (which was midly amusing for what it was) and EVERY match was amazing!
I had always wondered why TNA would take that Christian dude who was pounding on the mat crying to win a match and make him a main eventer. Well this show is a fine example.
RVD and Booker T with tag titles. Thats called giving your tag titles some credentials. You have to beat two former world champs to get it... Now Rhodes and Dibiase? or The Edgeheads?
The cruiser weights are pretty much ALL still there minus the jappys... sorry I miss you Tajiri! Oh and Chavo sucks
Jericho is actually better now than he ever was. The whole face thing just should never be him.
Batista kept his mouth shut and for some reason HHH had nothing to do with Evolution.... Flair kept his mouth shut too which didnt make much sense. Why was Randy Orton running the promo?
Was this The Rock's last match in WWE? Was the buffet closed?
How is Nunzio, Chavo and Funaki still working for this company when Ultimo Dragon is not?
Goldberg and Brock lived up to the big stinker I was told it was. Shameful considering Brock had to fuck himself and Bill GBG had to think he was more important than this. Austin was brilliant as always though and that saved us all.
JBL needs to get back to his APA days. He was awesome once, now eeessh.. wrong kind of heat son.
Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle. Fundamentally sound and perfect I loved every minute of this. I love wrestling cuz of matches like these... the odd ball classic.
Undertaker vs. Kane. Great story buildup!! Not a bad match either.. it was the return of the Taker. Too bad he wore that Freddy Kruger hat otherwise this was amazing.
GUY WHO DOESN'T EXIST really was in line for that belt. It was his turn, its just a shame he had to become a murderer. He really was wrestling, which might be a statement in itself. Great match all the way around.
BEST MANIA EVER!!!

1) Old School is for pre-2000 stuff 2) X7 is indeed the best 3) Why am I the only person who thought the WMXX main event was way overrated? Here was the formula for the entire match: Punch, Kick, Clothesline, DDT, German Suplex, Suplex, Crossface, Pedigree, Sweet Chin Music, Diving Headbutt. Repeat that over and over with the pacing and booking of an average RAW main event, and you have the main event to Wrestlemania XX. |

My thoughts exactly. |

Give them some credit for that finish... who ever thought that HHH could do a submission hold on himself? |

He's just that dam good. Like that time when he squashed himself at WM12. |
Wait, I was promised a bowl of gravy. Where is it? |

| It's kind of eerie watching Guerrero and Benoit celebrate at the end, but other than that, it wasn't a bad pay-per-view. I'm glad the awesome psychology of Guerrero and Angle overshadowed the fact that Undertaker came back looking the exact same as he did before he left. |

I guess with Taker's appearance they jst figured he'd been literally dug up from his grave, dusted off, given a hate and jacket and told to fight. The hair was longer, but didn't seem the same back. I guess that's the WWE's version of "continuity".
Thankfully, it was only Kane, and back then Kane was a bit of a nobody. Unfortunately. |
